Awakening

What is an awakening? Obviously, it implies that we have been asleep. Perhaps certain things have transpired that we were not aware of while we were asleep. Suddenly awakening, we discover that what we believed to be true is no longer true. Jesus told this parable:

“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to someone who sowed good seed in his field; but while everybody was asleep, an enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and then went away. So when the plants came up and bore grain, then the weeds appeared as well. And the slaves of the householder came and said to him, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where, then, did these weeds come from?’ He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The slaves said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and gather them?’ But he replied, ‘No; for in gathering the weeds you would uproot the wheat along with them. Let both of them grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Collect the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”   (Matthew 13:24-30)

What happened while everyone was asleep? An enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat. The weeds have grown in among the wheat and now threaten production. Has that happened in America, in our government, in our schools, in our families, in our churches?  Whoever has eyes, let them see.

The Apostle Paul wrote:

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.   (Ephesians 6:12)

Do we think we are just fighting an educational or political battle? Let us think again. We are up against powerful forces. Have some of our leaders, the people in authority, been working against us? If so, they have not been inspired by God. Or have they been being directed by evil entities hidden from view?

What do we do? We can pray. We can help raise awareness. But if our perception has been so wrong for such a long time, only God can save us. Only he can restore us. The parable of the weeds suggests that he will, at the time of harvest.

Now is the time of the harvest. Now is the end of the age. God is exposing the weeds. He is ready to gather them up and bind them to be destroyed. Let us not have any kinship with the weeds. Rather, let us warn those who are ready to listen. The time is short. God is ready to gather his wheat.
